Need a quick way to estimate the number of bricks, mortar, and cement needed for a wall?
Our free Brick Calculator makes it simple. Just enter your wall size, brick dimensions, mortar thickness, and wastage — and get clear results with step-by-step calculations.
Brick Calculator
How it works
Bricks per area use the modular size (brick + mortar joint). We subtract opening areas, apply wastage, and estimate mortar by subtracting total brick volume from wall volume (length × height × thickness). Cement and sand come from the chosen mix ratio by volume. Results are approximate and for planning purposes.
Brick Calculator
Compute bricks, mortar, and cement fast — supports metric (mm/m) and imperial (in/ft) systems, includes openings, wastage %, and cement-sand mix estimation.

How It Works
The calculator uses wall dimensions and brick modular size (brick + mortar) to estimate:
- Net wall area (after subtracting windows or doors)
- Total bricks required (with wastage)
- Mortar volume
- Cement bags and sand quantity based on your chosen mix ratio
Core formula:
Bricks = Wall Area ÷ (Brick + Joint size)
Mortar = (Wall Volume – Brick Volume) × (1 + Wastage %)
Example
Example – Metric:
Wall = 4 m × 2.7 m
Brick = 215 × 65 × 102.5 mm
Mortar joint = 10 mm
Wastage = 10 %
➡ Wall area = 10.8 m²
➡ Bricks per m² = ≈ 60
➡ Total bricks = ≈ 660
➡ Mortar = 0.22 m³
➡ Cement = ≈ 5 bags (50 kg each)
➡ Sand = ≈ 0.17 m³
(All values approximate for planning use.)

FAQ
Q: Can I use inches and feet?
Yes — switch to Imperial. The calculator automatically converts to metric for accurate results.
Q: What’s the default wastage?
10 %, which you can adjust depending on site conditions.
Q: How accurate are the results?
They’re close for estimation purposes; for structural work, consult an engineer or local standard.
Q: Can I change the mortar ratio?
Yes — simply edit the cement : sand fields (default = 1 : 4).
Q: Does it account for windows and doors?
Yes — enter their width and height under “Openings.
